Some builds you remember for how far they pushed the envelope. This one we remember for the opposite reason. The brief was restraint — a show truck that didn't shout about it — and that thinking ran through the whole build. We laid it out in a deep Chevy maroon, then sat it down on a QA1 coilover suspension front and rear to lower it and give it the kind of stance these short-bed Stepsides were born for.

The wheels are where the truck quietly shows its hand. They're custom Boze wheels, and rather than leave them as-cast we had them finished in a custom bronze. Against the maroon, that bronze does exactly what we hoped — it warms the whole truck up and adds an accent you don't see coming. The moment they went on, they offset the entire build and pulled the stance and the paint together in one move.

Inside, the same less-is-more thinking carries through. The cabin is done in black, and it's a bench-seat truck, not a bucket-seat one — honest to what a 1970 C10 actually was. A custom steering wheel and a set of Dakota Digital gauges modernize the dash without crowding it, and we deliberately left the steel exposed in the doors instead of wrapping everything in leather. It's simple on purpose, and it works. A Vintage Air system hides behind all of it to keep the cab cool — which, with a black interior and an Alabama summer, you're going to need.

Out back, the bed is finished in custom wood, stained to a color the customer picked himself — that's a phase of the build we love handing to the owner, because it's the part that makes the truck theirs. We pulled the fuel tank out from behind the seat and tucked it between the frame rails at the rear, then capped it off with a custom gas-cap cover. Hidden under that same cover is a battery cut-off switch; this truck doesn't get driven every day, so the owner wanted a clean, out-of-sight way to kill the power between outings.

The heart of it is the part the customer was most particular about: a GM LS crate engine making 525 horsepower and right around 490 to 498 foot-pounds of torque, delivered as one of the best connect-and-cruise packages GM puts out — engine, transmission, controller, and harness, ready to run. Up front it wears a Holley drive system, and under the hood we built a set of custom closeout panels finished so cleanly the engine reflects off them. For evening car shows there's a hidden switch that lights the bay in red, a set of custom CVF hood hinges, custom engine covers, and the Morgan Muscle logo cast right into the valve covers. With no weight over the rear axle, it'll light the tires up whenever the owner asks — which, as he tells it, is the whole point. Show and go, and he got all of it.
